Strachey var i Virginien from maj 1610 till sempember 1611 vid en tid då relationerna till indianerna hade försämrats. Han vistades mest i Fort Jamestown men hade tydligen konversation med två indianer, Kemps och Machumps. Kemps levde mest bland britterna, men dog redan 1611. Machumps hade varit i England och återvände samma år som Strachey kom till Virginien, kanhända dock inte på samma skepp.

Spelman, Henry 1595-1623 wiki
Spelman var i Virginia från augusti 1609 till mars 1611, från ca 1616 till 1618 och från ca 1619 till sin död. Han levde bland indianerna först hos Powhatan och sedan hos Ioipassus (Japazaww). På grund av Spelmans ringa ålder ”sålde” Smith honom till Powhatan i mening att han skulle lära sig språket. Spelmans korta handskrift är ovärderlig därför att det är den enda skriven av en engelsman som levt en längre tid bland indianerna.

  Original title page reads: A trve discovrse of the present estate of Virginia, and the successe of the affaires there till the 18 of June, 1614.
The discourse is followed by three letters: (1) From Sir Thomas Dale, dated Jamestown, June 18, 1614; (2) From Rev. Alexander Whitaker, dated Virginia, June 18, 1614; (3) From John Rolfe, giving his reasons for marrying Pocahontas.

  Pastor Samuel Purchas 1577-1626 var aldrig i Virginien. Han var samlare och utgivare av andras berättelser grundade på intervjuer med återvändare från Virginia. Sålunda pratade han med John Smith efter 1611, John Rolfe och Uttamatomakkin. Han var inte särskilt intresserad av indianerna i sig, utom när det gällde religion. Ändå ger hans intervju med Uttamatomakkin (1616-1617) somligt unikt. 1614 års version 1617 års version anses bäst och är mindre antiindiansk och därför mer informativ än den lättare överkomliga 1625 års version som finns i Hakluytus Postumus (nedan) som skrevs efter indianupproret 1622. Beverley, Robert 1673-1722  wiki
Beverley föddes och levde det mesta av sitt vuxna liv i Virginia, men utbildades i England. Han var intresserad av historia och av indianerna. Han kom att syssla med indianaffärer som medlem om Virginia House of Burgesses. Han bodde mitt emot en av de sista stora indianägda områdena i kolonin vid Mattaponi River. När engelsmännen trånade efter de sista landområdena indianerna ägde, kom han att samverka med Pamunkey och Chickahominy indianerna i frågan. Hans berättelse om detta upptar en fjärdedel av hans långa opus. En del av fakta tog han från John Banisters (1650-92) bok ”On the Natives” och han blandade in annat från andra skribenter. Hans egna material anses emellertid värdefullt.
