Beothuks på Newfoundland, de röda indianerna, så kallade för de smetade in allt i rödockra, bör studeras i ett sammanhang med vikingarnas Vinlandsfärder och senare kolonialäventyr. Givetvis blev kontakten med europeerna orsak till deras tidiga undergång. Om de levde på Newfoundland när vikingarna kom dit är osäkert, men möjligt. Kanske var de algonkiner närmast besläktade med Micmac som senare tog över Newfoundland som bosättningsområde. Kanske var de rätt sena på ön. Men märkliga och intressanta är de.
